The Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE), a program organized by the Catholic Diocese of Koforidua, the first of its kind in the country, trains chaplains to provide low cost and easily accessible care to people infected with HIV/AIDS.


Matthew 25 House, based in Akwatia, with a branch in Koforidua, all in the Eastern Region of Ghana with the highest concentration of AIDS.
 

In Ghana, hard hit by the HIV/AIDS epidemic, morbidity and mortality have risen and is expected to continue to rise, laying excessive stress on social support systems of almost every community. Health institutions and centers are inadequate and do not have sufficient staff or equipment to meet existing health needs let alone for the additional challenges resulting from HIV/AIDS.

Matthew 25 provides:

  • School fees for the children
  • School uniforms and workbooks
  • Foot wear, school supplies and school bags
  • Visiting individual homes
  • Bringing children to the center for leisure and
  • learning.

Income Generating Activities

Matthew25 House strives to be self-sustaining a
nd to decrease its dependency on donations by:

  • Palm Oil Production
  • Tie & Dye / Batik
  • Ambulance Services
  • Funeral Undertakings
  • Farming

Care and Support

HIV/AIDS can render people lonely and helpless, shortening the life span of HIV/AIDS victims. As a solution, Matthew 25 offers various forms of care and support services to people living with HIV/AIDS. They meet there to interact, encourage one another, share various experiences as to how best to manage the disease ensuring a longer life span.

Many lose their jobs when employers realize
they are infected or can not continue working due to their illness. Here, they receive counseling and engage in income generating ventures like batik, tie & dye, and soap & pomade making, allowing them the dignity of work and providing alternate income.

Matthew 25 has trained volunteers who
visit, give food items, financial support and care to AIDS victims in their homes. Many Children are orphaned as a result of the HIV/AIDS menace. With the help of donor agencies and benefactors Matthew 25 takes care of children either orphaned by AIDS or who have lost their parents through other means.
